Ruminations for a Monday morning

My weekends have become my solace. My weeknights are often too short and I come home from work exhausted from the commute.

I like my job fine, but it can wear on me. I’m working on enjoying each day as it comes and enjoying what little downtime I have throughout the day.

I want to internalize Seth Godin’s quote:

“Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from.”

Here’s what I usually do in my downtime to help make the workday easier:

  • Write on my blog
  • Read about personal finance, self improvement, and exercise
  • Buzzfeed
  • Socialize with co-workers, build relationships with the people I interact with regularly

And if I’m doing mind-numbing tasks at work (I think every job has an element of this), I usually:

  • Watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Hulu because my workplace hasn’t blocked it
  • Listen to or watch YouTube videos from channels like WatchMojo or SNL
  • Listen to an audiobook

So that’s my task I give myself each day – try to enjoy my little moments throughout the day, whether I’m working or not.
